7 Pieces of Furniture Your Home Should Not Be Without
When you are furnishing your home, there are pieces that do more than just fill the open space. These pieces can work in more than one room in the house and could even be taken with you if you relocate. If you choose well-made timeless pieces, these items could last for a lifetime. Seven pieces of furniture that no home should be without are listed below.
1. A comfortable couch
The couch is the place other than the bed where you probably spend most of your (sitting) time. This means that above all, the couch you choose should be comfortable. If you combine this with a hard-wearing fabric and classic lines, then you will have a couch that will serve you well for as long as you need it.
2. An occasional chair
Occasional chairs can provide a real style contrast in any room and they have a practical use if you ever need a spare chair. Therefore, the best occasional chairs are ones that are lightweight and easy to move. Chairs that have open backs let the light through and this can create interesting shadows. One of the beauties of the occasional chair is you do not have to worry about matching them with any other furniture and so you are free to choose any design that you want.
3. A console table
A console table is narrow and is generally placed along a wall. There are a lot of options that are available to you in terms of the designs and features. Some of them are completely open while others will have drawers or cabinets. They are ideal for storage and decoration and work well in any room.
4. A dresser
Dressers can add character to any room, and they give you a great amount of extra storage space. They come in a range of different designs and finishes so you are sure to be able to find something that you love. Low or narrow dressers are a good choice because you can have a pair of them side by side, or even across the room from one another.
5. A demilune table
The demilune table is more versatile than other types of tables because they do not take up as much space. Their semi-circle design means that they can push up right against a wall. The fact that they do not have a leg in the center also means that a chair can be tucked right underneath it as well.
6. An ottoman
An ottoman is a versatile piece of furniture that can be used in various rooms around the home. The seat is usually upholstered, and it is often used as a stool or footrest. You can even get models that have built in storage (a great place to store those warm blankets for chilly couch sessions!)
7. A nightstand
Nightstands are primarily used in the bedroom, but you could also use them in other rooms where you like to keep things close to hand. In the bedroom it can be a place to keep your alarm clock and a glass of water. It is also somewhere to store the things that you may use before bed such as a book or magazine.
